About Us

Parents United project is a 24-month project with 5 partners from 5 countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, France, and Spain) that aim to promote holistic sexuality education, capable of providing scientific information, fostering the development of behaviours matured from the information learned and attitudes favourable to building just societies.
Most parents want to be the primary educators of their children's sexuality, but generally find it very difficult to discuss this topic with their children, especially when they have a disability. Parents of persons with disabilities therefore need communication strategies and tactics to initiate, maintain and influence their child during informal education at home and in the community.

Context

In fact, the project wants to develop parents' knowledge and communication skills and to change their beliefs, attitudes, and behaviour towards sex education with their children to assess comfortable behaviour and interaction patterns with their children and to avoid neglecting opportunities for children with disabilities to achieve greater autonomy and quality behavioural development. The assumption of the project is the conviction that affectivity and sex education is a process that takes place in an interpersonal dimension and that finds its main instrument in dialogue. Information and discussion with the child are the basis of the process of knowledge of a broad and complex sexuality, capable of understanding the world of relationships, affections, individual and cultural values.
